Meet Our Pilates Instructors

Annette’s personal practice and life long passion for the Pilates Method of Body Conditioning began while she was performing with the Joffrey Ballet in New York City. She studied the Pilates Method with Romana Kryzanowska, a protégée of Joseph Pilates.

She also performed with the Joffery II Dancers, the Boston Ballet, the Boston Ballet Ensemble, Ballet West and the Princeton Ballet along with numerous guest appearances around the country. After retiring from performing, Annette attended the Pilates Studio teacher’s certification program and has been teaching people of all ages ever since.

She spends her summers teaching Pilates at Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires. Annette says, “Pilates has helped me through the physical demands of classical dancing, the rigors of childbirth and recovery, the challenges of motherhood and will protect me through maturity. I have seen it change many bodies and believe it can enhance anyone’s personal fitness program or sport.”

To keep in shape, Annette includes Pilates workouts, yoga, swimming and walks with her Springer Spaniel. She lives in Bronxville with her husband Bruce and their two children.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a non-impact system of exercise that focuses on the deep muscles of the abdomen and spine. It strengthens and tightens the abdominal muscles while protecting your lower back, aiding in injury prevention and spinal health.

Pilates is not just a collection of exercises; it is a method that's been refined over eighty years. It is a holistic, mind-body experience that involves not only control over your muscles, but your breathing as well.

Lengthens muscles as they are strengthened, resulting in long, lean STRONG but FLEXIBLE muscles without the bulk.

Improves alignment without gravity, thus balancing muscles and improving posture.

The fluid movements coupled with the breath are designed to reduce stress and tension, leaving you refreshed and not exhausted.

The custom-designed workouts are safe, versatile and effective for all ages and fitness levels.

History:

The teachings of J.H. Pilates have been around since the 1920's and were first enjoyed by dance greats such as George Balanchine and Martha Graham. Now, athletes from the San Francisco 49ers to the Cleveland Indians to professional hockey teams are discovering and reaping the benefits.

Benefits:

Whether you're an elite athlete or a pure beginner, you can benefit. The secret is non-impact resistance, which eliminates stress on your joints, making Pilates safe, versatile, and effective for all ages and fitness levels.

Simultaneously strengthened and lengthened, your muscles become longer and leaner, acquiring optimal strength and flexibility. The result is a body that is upright, balanced, and agile, free of old tensions and ready to take on new endeavors.

Pilates Mat Class Schedule

Consistent with the recommendations of classical Pilates, we advise that you take at least 10 private sessions before doing the mat classes. That's because private sessions will teach you the form and positions needed to safely and effectively get the benefits of each class.
